Washington, DC: August 13 - 14
The Transportation Enhancements Professionals Seminar will take place August 13-14, 2009, in Washington DC. The National Transportation Enhancements Clearinghouse (NTEC) is organizing the Seminar under a cooperative agreement with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). This Seminar is for State Transportation Enhancement program managers, FHWA staff, and invited guests from other Federal agencies and national stakeholder organizations.
Seminar sessions will be held at the historic Churchill Hotel and the national office of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, both located in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. See the sidebar on the right for the seminar rate for accommodations, also at the beautiful and historic Churchill Hotel.
Reflect & Envision
Transportation Enhancement (TE) program managers, FHWA staff, and NTEC will reflect on program accomplishments, discuss current program issues, and envision likely future program direction. Transportation Secretary LaHood is on record as promoting "livable communities," and TE projects contribute toward livable communities. The Secretary also talked about livability at the National Bike Summit. You can watch his remarks!
The Focus
This is an educational gathering designed to provide you with the information that you need to do your job well. We will discuss TE project eligibility, program implementation issues, and best practices. It is also an opportunity to network and talk directly with other State TE staff, FHWA division office staff, and staff from FHWA headquarters.
Costs
As in past years, the Seminar is free for State DOT and FHWA participants. Attendees must cover travel and accommodations on their own and make their own travel and hotel reservations.
The TE Professionals Seminar qualifies as "workforce development" and is eligible for TE funds to cover travel expenses. FHWA's TE Guidance points out that TE funds may be used at 100 percent Federal share for direct educational expenses for surface transportation workforce development, training, and education under 23 U.S.C. 504(e) provided the activity specifically benefits eligible TE activities. See Transportation Enhancements Guidance Supplement - Workforce Development, Training, and Education.
Stipends
Stipends will not be available for the TE Seminar. Please use State TE Funds for travel expenses (see above).
If you have any questions about the seminar in the meantime, please contact NTEC at 1-888-388-6832.
